Another week passes at the Coffinberry Home
This time last Friday I was re-reading and re-tweaking my Open Memo, when I finally had to say "Enough! print it out already and be done with it!" Everyone had been so supportive and tolerant of my insanity going into those final hours, and I'm really grateful. It was so nice to have it finished, and dropped safely into the "box of doom" (as I called it when I gave my family a tour of the law building that weekend).
That night, Son One had an audition for All-State Choir in Fort Collins (hurrah for being old enough to drive - and no, we don't know yet how he did), Son Two had a dress rehearsal for a symphony concert, and Son Three and Daughter-one-and-only had a Harvest Festival at the elementary school (Son Three was invited because he had been part of the fifth grade last year that did so well on the CSAP that the school was getting a special award that night). Had fun at the Festival... until Daughter, in the middle of doing the toy-walk (like a cake-walk, but for toys), had a sudden attack of a tummy bug, and made a lovely mess all over the kindergarten classroom rug. Arriving home, Son Three was suddenly afflicted with the same disease, quite violently. It took an hour to clean and disinfect the hallway walls and new carpet and the bathroom walls and floor. Lovely.
Saturday morning we raked leaves and took down the summer screen tent in the back yard, just before the weather changed. That night, Son Two got to do his first rain-driving ("Dad, is it normal ot be SCARED TO DEATH?" he asked, as the rain came down faster than the wipers could clear it away, and the road markings were invisible) transporting us to his concert down in Niwot. The Longmont Youth Symphony was delightful.
Sunday brought the annual children's program at Church. It was Son Three's last time, as he will be twelve next year. Both he and Daughter said their pieces very nicely, and they sang beautifully. That evening, we went to the Halloween Party at my school (well, Son One passed on it), and they got to meet some of the very fine people I go to school with. I cannot say it enough, CU is a great place to do law school, and the class of '08 is full of some really good folks. Daughter showed-off her karate skills (did I mention she passed her Blue-Belt test last week?), and thoroughly whacked the pinata to its demise.
Then it was back to normal and back to school on Monday. Trick-or-treat scored plenty (too much) candy, as always. My husband, poor thing, is the one who had to have cavities filled on Tuesday - not from candy, but from having been given tetracycline as a young child (his teeth didn't develop correctly, and had eroded too easily now). Wednesday, having a spare moment, I got a hair-cut, which was a lot shorter than I've had in maybe 20 years. Report cards from the High School arrived yesterday; Sons One and Two will both be on the honor roll - Son One is delighted at how the Weighted AP class grades give a lift to his GPA.
Last evening was spent at the doctors; Daughter's pierced-ear suddenly had gotten infected, and somehow managed to swallow up the faux-diamond stud, and required some minor surgery (despite numbing medication, it took both parents to hold her and calm her) to remove it. So now she's on anti-biotics for a week, and will have to let that ear heal and get re-pierced later this month. Poor thing.
Today, I have an "Accountability Committee Meeting" at the Middle School. Then it's back to the grind... then to the store for some Pizza and to buy Star Wars III. Hope y'all have a good weekend, too.
